The Alcoa smelter in Baie-Comeau has been a major economic player in Baie-Comeau and Manicouagan since 1957. Alcoa is also proud to be an important player in the local and cultural development of the community, and plans to support this development in the years to come.

Alcoa does not hesitate to support structuring projects stemming from the community in order to assert its presence. Here are a few examples:

• The company allotted a financial contribution of $1 million to the construction of the Centre des Arts de Baie-Comeau.
• In 2004, it contributed $500,000 to the Jardin des Glaciers, an interpretation and research centre on glaciers. Since it opened its doors in June 2009, the number of visitors has confirmed all its potential.
• The company is involved in the activities of the Manicouagan-Uapishka World Biosphere Reserve, created in 2007.
