The motivation for the project is:

• Environment

  • Meet future emission standards by replacing the Söderberg potlines (A, B and C) with a new potline using prebaked technology that is more advanced, especially pertaining to emissions

  • The greenhouse gas emissions at the new modernized plant will be reduced by 40%.

• Sustainability

  • Maintain long-term employment opportunities and improve the performance of existing prebaked technology cells.

• Plant production capacity

• • Maintain the annual production capacity of the modernized plant to approximately half a million metric tonnes.
