| The Alcoa smelter in Baie-Comeau has been a major economic player in Baie-Comeau and Manicouagan since 1957. Alcoa is also proud to play an important role in the local and cultural development of the community, and it plans to continue supporting this development in the years to come.
Alcoa actively supports community structure projects in order to assert its presence. Here are some examples:

The company contributed $1 million to the construction of the Centre des Arts Alcoa in Baie-Comeau.

In 2004, it contributed $500,000 to the Jardin des Glaciers, an interpretation and research centre on glaciers. Since this centre opened its doors in June 2009, the number of visitors has confirmed its full potential.

The company is involved in the activities of the Manicouagan-Uapishka World Biosphere Reserve, created in 2007

The company is a major partner in the activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the City of Baie-Comeau; these celebrations will take place in 2012.
